 GBYO announces 2018 European Tour:

March 31- April 8, 2018

The GBYO will perform concerts in Salzburg, Vienna and in the Rudolfinium Dvorak Hall in Prague.  This will be an exciting trip visitng Mozart's birthplace in Salzburg, the Imperial Palace in Vienna, and Prague castle along the Moldau.

GBYO Announces New Conductors for 2016-17 Season

The Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra announces the appointment of Ansgarius Aylward as its Music Director for the 2016-17 season. "We're so pleased that Ansgar has agreed to serve as our Music Director," said GBYO President Chris Malof. "Not only is he an extraordinary musician, but he is a gifted teacher for our students, as well. We're excited about what Ansgar will bring to our orchestra."



Mr. Aylward replaces Stefan Sanders, who served as Music Director last season. "We thank Stefan for his dedication and service, and we wish him the very best in his already-distinguished career," Mr. Malof said.



In addition, the GBYO announces that Mrs. Lynne Ruda will succeed Dennis Lell as Conductor of the Greater Buffalo Youth String Orchestra. "Lynne is a talented music educator," said GBYO Executive Director Janice Jones. "She will be an excellent conductor for our young string students."



The GBYO concert season starts November 6 at Lippes Hall on SUNY Buffalo's Amherst Campus.

Jennifer Christen

Principal Oboe - Indianapolis Symphony

Jennifer was a member of GBYO.

Christen comes to the ISO from the New World Symphony in Miami, where she served for one season under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. Previous posts include Assistant Principal Oboe of the New Haven Symphony and  substitute with the Metropolitan Opera and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.  She has appeared at the Verbier, Marlboro and Blossom summer music festivals and was a member of the Puff Woodwind Quintet that won First Prize in the J.C. Arriaga Treetops Chamber Music Competition in 2008 in Stamford, Connecticut. Christen was a semi-finalist in the Fischoff Competition in 2009 and a finalist in the prestigious Naumberg Competition that same year.

Christen attended The Juilliard School of Music, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees under teachers Nathan Hughes, Elaine Douvas and John Mack and was runner-up in the prestigious school’s Concerto Competition in 2010.  She also was the recipient of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s Millonzii Scholarship. 


The GBYO and GBYSO will change home sites to Amherst High School, Main St., Amherst, for the 2015-16 season.  GBYSO rehearsals will begin 6:45pm and GBYO will begin at 7:00pm.
