Janice Jones, Executive Director
Janice Jones has been involved with the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra since 1991, when she joined the Board of Directors. Since that time, she has served as recording secretary, tour treasurer and organizer, and as President of the Board. In 2005, Mrs. Jones assumed the duties of Executive Director. Her responsibilities include publicity, arrangements for rehearsals, concerts, auditions, music librarian, camps, and tours, as well as grant applications and development.
Principal oboist of the Orchard Park Symphony for 33 years, she had also performed with the Niagara Falls Philharmonic, Clarence Summer Orchestra, Four Centuries Chamber Orchestra, and the Buffalo Philharmonic.
She received her B.A. and M.A. in Music Education from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University), N.J., and taught instrumental music in the Hamburg Schools for 28 years, where she was Music Dept. Chairman, 2005-2013. She also served as Director of Youth Choirs at the Hamburg United Methodist Church for 15 years. Her husband, Jeff Jones, violinist with the BPO, serves as Advisor to the Board, having been involved with the Youth Orchestra since 1977 as coach and adjudicator – Board member since 1983. Their daughters, Alyson and Vanessa, were both members of GBYO.
